Materials

Gold/Black Upholstery Fabric Exterior and Carrying Straps, Printed Cotton Lining and center ties, Bunny and Carrot Free Standing Lace - Machine Embroidery Designs.

What was your inspiration?

This tote features free standing lace "carrot" embroidery design from emblibrary.com, and "bunny" from urbanthreads.com. The carrot and bunny add texture, and an instant replay of color in the upholstery fabric exterior.

What are you most proud of?

The center ties are an important part of the function of the 18-1/2" wide, 14" tall travel tote. Is it easily over-stuffed with clothes and kept secure sinching it closed with centered ties made from the same printed cotton liner fabric.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

My tip is to "stay sharp."

Upholstery fabric is thick and sturdy. I always use a new needle for hassle-free, flawless sewing when constructing bags and totes made from upholstery fabric. There's nothing more frustrating than picking out stitches that went wrong. Use a new needle and you'll be smiling and sewing all day long.

This tote is very eye-catching. Love the colors, love the texture the pattern creates.

Hello CFin. To answer your question . . I used microtex needles . . . very sharp. I use size 90-14. Sometmes I use demin jean needles (actual description on the plastic needle package). You also asked about lining for this tote. Yes I lined the travel tote with the same print fabric as the center ties. Other thoughts: I don't usually put pockets on the inside of the travel totes--just on the outside of the bags. I find when stuffing clothing into the bag--the pockets seem to be in the way. I actually use my travel totes for traveling and they are wonderful!

Very Nice, Love the fabric you used. Did you line it? What size needle do you preferfor upholstery fabric.
