This a such a beautifully designed quilt. Congratulations. I was wondering how you go about building your stash of fabrics. Do you buy strategically, on a whim, on sale, how much (when you don't have a plan). I am asking based on knowing that you also did a gorgeous and intricate colour wheel from your stash. As a new quilt student, I am curious about how people choose fabric for their stash. Thanks for any advice.

This quilt is based on a design in Weeks book. I challenged myself to come up with colours, values, and scale that were very close for the most part. I intentionally added the pink blocks that have the larger scale print and I added texture to some blocks with paint sticks. As for the accumulation of fabrics, it happened over a 25 year period (in preparation for retirement when I would not have the cash flow). I usually bought fat quarters or quarter yards and so I only have more than a half yard/meter of fabric in a few instances. I bought on an as needed basis, but there was almost always fabric left over from any given project. Also, Im in love with starting projects and so many ideas did not come to fruition. If you keep up with this pattern long enough, you will end up with a stash like mine.

Thanks for your reply. I am starting to build my stash, and received some good advice from Joen Wolfrom, as well. I just retired and am loving the time to explore. Craftsy came along at a very good time for me. It is inspiring to view and get advice from this community. Thanks!
