This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Thread Art »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Traditional

Materials

Cotton fabrics, Interfacing, batting, colored pencils, polyester threads.

What was your inspiration?

Lola Jenkins way to use threads for art. The Traditional Swedish Dala Horse is acctually a painted wooden horse, that you can by as a souvenier in a giftshop. They are very popular for the moment, but the tradition is very old. Now a days they come in all colors and also without flowers. You can also find Dalahorse with dots or other funny paintings on them. Anyway I like them a lot.

What are you most proud of?

The wiggle thread art was quit difficult, but I heard Lola's voice which told me "It doesn't matter" and "No one will notice..". I smiled and continued. This was accually a practicepiece. My intention was to practice to paint the horse with a lot of shades as Lola showed. I found the horse good enough to continue with the rest. Yes, I did it backwards. "I didn't care - who will notice?" Oops! I told you!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Make it the right way. You can accidently smudge out the colors when you are quilting the piece.

You have done a fabulous job. The Dela Horse is showcased in a way that will be remembered. I really love the background it adds so much to this piece.

Beautiful! I love the tunnel effect of the quilting behind the horse. Really eye-opening to what can be done with this idea.
