Category: Knitting

Type of item: Clothing

For: Children

Style: Cute, Traditional, Classic

Materials

I used a silk/acrylic blend of yarn I had bought years ago so I no longer have the exact information

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to knit a traditional baby dress for my granddaughter for her first birthday. Since the largest sized pattern in the book was for a 6-9 month size, I decided to add stitches in increments hoping to make the dress a 12-18 month size. It came out quite a bit larger and she was able to wear it at 2 years of age up to age 4!! I am glad she was able to get more use out of it. I loved this pattern found in Erika Knight's "Simple Knits for Cherished Babies" book.

What are you most proud of?

I was pleased that the dress came out as cute as it did and that my granddaughter could wear it for several years.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I followed the pattern instructions and was very frustrated with trying to sew the various seams. Now when I make it again, I will knit the dress "in the round" using circular needles, avaoiding as many seams as possible!!!
