Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Quilting Big Projects on a Small Machine »

Instructions

I used techniques that I learned from this course and from Ann's other course Beyond Basic Machine Quilting.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Traditional

Materials

100 % cotton fabric Bali Pops

What was your inspiration?

Ann is a wonderful teacher. She really gave me the confidence to try this at home. My husband was a great support and helped pick out the fabric and pattern.

What are you most proud of?

I am very thankful that I was able to complete this project on my home machine!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you have quilt tops waiting to finish, don't be afraid to try quilting them yourself. This was my first large quilt that I did myself after taking Ann's course.

I Love your fabric choices and your great eye for color in all your projects! I am very impressed that you did all this beautiful quilting on your domestic sewing machine! I have not attempted such a large quilt yet for FMQ on my machine. I have this same pattern and strip ruler from Cozy Quilts. Can't wait to try it out!

Thank you for your kind words. The classes I have taken here on Craftsy.com have given me the instruction and courage to try FMQ on my domestic machine. I really like the Cozy Quilt patterns. If you do make a Trade Winds quilt, I hope you post it for all to see.

Really lovely. Which quilting technique from Ann's class did you use?

I quilted the whole quilt on my domestic machine. In the center I did some swirl designs. In the first rust border I did some leaves on vines. In the green border I did some feathers. I used a green thread in the green border so my feathers are not very visible. I'll know better the next time.

Lovely work. The colours are great, and the pattern is sophisticated enough to be interesting, yet simple enough that it's not overwhelming on a bed.
