This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Bag-Making Basics: Reversible Tote & Zipper Pouch »

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Mod

Materials

Taiwan silk, wool batting, osnuburg fabric, matching threads

What was your inspiration?

I had a piece of taiwan silk for years and never knew what to make with it.

What are you most proud of?

How it turned out, by adding some batting and interlining to the silk fabric then putting a strong cardboard base (covered with lining fabric) it stands beautifully. I decided to make a tie that I could add a loose bow but can be removed too.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Bag making is fun and simple even for inexperienced sewers. I used a walking foot throughout the whole process

I'd never been interested in bag making at all, but this creation of yours is very inspiring. I love the shape of the bag and the clever ways you personalized it. It's really a beautiful thing I'd be proud to carry.

I too was thinking about the bottom being made with cardboard or something, Could you share how you did this? My brain is in overload with Christmas stuff that I am having a hard time thinking how I would do this.

Measure the bottom where you stitched the corners for height and then the length of the finished bottom seam, this will be the size you cut the cardboard. I then cut a piece of fabric about an inch and a half all around. I glued the fabric to the cardboard using a glue stick then turned it over and stuck the edges down. You can then glue a piece of fabric over the underneath to make it look tidy. Hope you can understand this.

Thank you, using the osnuburg fabric for the lining was a good choice, it compliments the silk beautifully
