Materials
Torched copper disc & ring. Gold plated spacer with three holes, 22 & 24 guage gold plated wire. 1 14kt gold ball head pin, 1 irregular shaped piece of turquoise, 1 semi precious carnelian pendant, copper bali clasp & jump rings, lastly about 15 inches of a rustic base metal chain.
What was your inspiration?
I love finding materials and putting them together in new & different ways. Most of the time my designs become industrial looking because in order to make the materials do what I would like them to do, I have to add structural supports, like in this necklace I added the gold plated, 3 holed spacer. Without that the necklace wouldn't work, everything would be off center. But also, a lot of these components are difficult to use because they're just pieces of copper, not really beads.
What are you most proud of?
I think that anyone who understands beading & working with their hands could do this. It looks simple, but it took me a lot of tweaking and finding the right materials to pull this off. I especially love the way the Carnelian & Turquoise go with the beautiful torched copper. I love the textures & the combination of down-to-earth and industrial styles.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
I would say, be free! Get all of your materials in front of you, and use this as inspiration.
