Too Much Pink!

Category: Quilting

For: Home

Style: Romantic

What was your inspiration?

It all started with the pink tropical print, but when I put it all together it was a bit overwhelming. I tried to tone it all down with green, but I'm truly not crazy about it at all. Oh well.

On to the next project.

Oh, thank you! I do intend to finish this one someday. Quilting isn't hard, but like your cake decorating (which I would love to learn), it's a skill that takes lots of practice. You might consider trying it again on a very small project - like a pretty table runner to put under your cakes.

I love your quilt. Pink and purple are my favorite colors, but this green works just fine. I like the different pattern blocks, makes the quilt very interesting to look at. You have skill.

I agree with everone else. I love the bright colors and the blocks are beautiful. I find that the borders can tone it down if you think it is to loud. Use a dull plain color,or a neutral for the border to tone it down. Somebody would love to own it.

Oh, please finish this project. I thought I was disappointed in some of my own projects but once the project was completed, I found I was my own worst critic. I have learned that by completing projects I learn more about techniques, color, and gain experience. Yours is a beautiful project that is worthy of being finished.

You should go ahead and finish this project. Quilts often take on a whole new personality once they have been quilted. There is always an argument whether it is the fabric and piecing that makes the quilt or the actual quilting. I am leaning towards the quilting but, of course, it is both.

I'll definitely reconsider whether or not to finish this one. You are so right about the way the quilting changes and adds to the finished quilt. It really can make it or break it.

I love the bright pink and green it really is cheery. Remember we are our own worst critic. Be praying about who needs cheering up, I'm sure before you finish it you will have someone in mind who will truly love the quilt. The pink makes me think of pink ribbon, so could it be that you know someone who has breast cancer, this would be a great comfort quilt for them.

I agree with Sandra, finish it and give it to a cancer patient if you don't want to keep it, it will definitely brighten up their life and what a thoughtful gift to keep someone warm during treatment.

A lot of times I don't finish my projects that have no intended purpose other than because I liked the pattern or it was a challenge or group project of some sort. But our guild gave away 314 quilts last year to various organizations in our community (police and fire dept-for kids in accidents or who have to be taken out of a home, to a pregnant women's home, the children's hospital that cares for a lot of single parent families so the kids are often at the hospital alone-this one really got my heart, veterans hospital and a few others) that my goal is to finish all my UFO's (and I am getting the bonus of practicing my free motion machine quilting) and if I don't have a purpose for them to give them to our guild to go to others in need who will really appreciate them. A quilt is a hug you can wrap yourself up in.

Another application I use on most of my quilts is a 1/2 inch strip of piping that separates the border. (See my Baby Quilt for Olive- the purple is piping). On your quilt I would put on a bright pink strip of piping and then your tropical border. I think it would really make the final border pop.

I'll try that layout and see how it looks.

This is a beautiful quilt and it would be a shame not to finish it. It would make a wonderful gift for someone if you don't like it enough to keep it. Your piecing is wonderful and the fabrics are gorgeous. Please finish it - you could give it to me! LOL

It's really quite nice and easy to see you've invested a lot of time. My suggestion is to add a few borders using some of the pinks. The borders will distract from all of the color in the center and will help to even out. When you're finished and you still don't like it there will probably be a whole list of people waiting for a quilt gift. Don't let it become like the "Ugly Quilt" I finished for my friend and posted.

I did spend a lot of time on it and I like the individual blocks. Your suggestion for a border is excellent. I'd been thinking of adding a narrow border of the tropical print so I'm thrilled to hear confirmation of pink on the outside from someone so skilled. I'll lay it out again and take another look.
