Bumble Bee Sock

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Knit Original Toe-Up Socks »

Instructions

I used a Bosnian or Mocassin Toe and an afterthought heel. Instead of the usual peasant heel, I did a (slip2 knitwise, knit, pass2over) method of decreases every other row.
While this came out just fine and I learned a lot, I think I still like knitting socks cuff down.

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Traditional

Materials

Acrylic sport weight yarn

I held two strand while making the pattern Row 1 and 3: k2 black, k1 yellow all the way around. Row 2: K yellow Row 4 - 6: knit black. Repeat these 6 rows. I did not block my sock - I will wash them and them lay them out flat, if I think they need it. Donna teaches a Top down course, too, if you like this one.

I really like this. I love the originality of the stripes. How did you do the stripes? I purchased the course but have not tried it yet. I have knits toe-up socks before (two at once using magic loop). I like it because of the ability to try it as you knit to assure a good fit. I am left handed and cuff down was the first way I tried and never could get using just a pattern. I am visual learner too. I will try cuff down again now that I can "see" how to do it. I hope to adapt a cuff down to make slippers with pre-made leather soles. Did you block your sock? It has a really nice shaping. Acrylic does not block well making shaping or getting the sock to hold the shape harder.
