Toddler Shirt

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
The Classic Tailored Shirt »

Instructions

This was based on Kwik Sew pattern 3079 - but I drafted my own collar band which was semi sucessful.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Children

Style: Classic, Traditional

Materials

Left over Armani Italian cotton "Roamin waters" from mens shirt project

What was your inspiration?

As i cut out on the single layer when making the mens shirt I had enough fabric pieces left to make this toddler shirt - there are a number of 2yr old boys that I could give it too.

What are you most proud of?

drafting the pattern for the collar band and I did a better job of matching stripes on the sleeve/yoke

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

making a smaller shirt is more difficult in that all the curves are tighter and it is more difficult to get smooth seams.

Thanks mkslcsw - I would highly recommend Pam's class ... it is one of the best I've taken on Craftsy. But make a full size shirt first before attempting a childs one ... the smaller one was more difficult.

Thanks Sheri ... not as perfect as yours but I have only really started making clothing seriously this year. I agree Pam's class is excellent ... she explains so clearly that a professional result is not difficult to achieve with patience.

Hello!!, I would say that you were more than ''semi-successful'' with your pattern drafting skills! You have done a wonderful job with this shirt, and there will be a very lucky little boy who receives it! Great job on matching the stripes, I love it :-)) Thanks so much for taking my class, Pam

Thanks Pam for doing the class ... it is one of the best I have taken on Craftsy and your calm approach reminds me of why I make things. The collar band didn't quite fit the shirt being about 1/2 inch too big ... I am going to work on it over my holidays. I ended up giving this shirt to my boss's grandson so they can be matching on the boat.
