Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Whimsical

Materials

Assorted cottons from my stash, Wonder-under

What was your inspiration?

I found this pattern in a quilt shop in Ketchikan, Alaska. It is inspired by a painting by Alaska artist Barbara Lavallee. I have this little piece hanging in my laundry area.

What are you most proud of?

No new fabric was purchased - I used everything from my stash.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be restrained by the pattern photo or the original print. Make your own decisions about colour, pattern etc.

Very nice work on the appliqu - lovely! Have done two other patterns of Barbara's - great sentiment. If you want to do more of her patterns they are available at rushintailor.com; this is a fabulous site for patterns and fabric.

Love Barbara's patterns and you made this look great. I have the dancing one I need to do in my stash.

I did a counted cross stitch design by the same artist. There were several native ladies in the same flowing dresses shopping for fabric while a few children played among the bolts. Barbara Lavallee is a wonderful illustrator. I enjoyed your quilt.

Thanks Betsy. I love Barbara's work. In addition to the quilt pattern, I also bought a print which is framed and hanging in my living room. It's called Mittens and Mukluks. I love her naive and happy style.
