Hello katidamor, Congratulations on another successful drawing on toned paper with white chalk and charcoal & conte. Thank you for the information on material, reference image and wise words: "Keep drawing." You are right to be proud of the atmospheric feeling or effects. As regards the composition it may have been of use to lower the eye-level line. First this would give the river better projection in the distance, it seems not to be as convincing that area as in the foreground. Also, it would have given the drawing a bit more sky and this would not be a bad thing. Last, the distance hills decline at a steeper angle from top to bottom and this too would aid the spatial structure. All-in-all a good drawing, you are benefiting from working on toned grounds. I look forward to seeing the posting of your next drawing.

Thank you, this class has really helped me see values, and I catch myself looking at landscapes constantly trying to figure out how to translate them into a black and white drawing. I am an oil painter and so used to expressing things through color. I appreciate your critique, thank you.

You are welcome Katidamor. As mentioned above the drawings show continual improvement and an appreciation for tonal structure. Your tonal analysis of landscapes will not only enhance your drawings; but, also, inform your chromatic development in your oils.
