Instructions

I used a combination of motifs from Aimee Ray's Doodle Stitching books and added a few of my own sketches. I used back stitch to fill in small spaces and long and short stitch for larger spaces. The outlines are mostly stem stitches. I usually make up my mind about stitches as I move around the project. Whatever feels good to you will work.

What was your inspiration?

I am always inspired by Aimee Ray. I try to mimic her style in my own creations. I love to create colorful and whimsical pillows that will appeal to the child in all of us.

What are you most proud of?

I am thrilled that I've taken my hand embroidery from nothing and through practice and perserverence I now feel confident to present my embroideries to the world.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't get overwhelmed by a project. Take it one piece at a time and before you know it, your project is done and beautiful. This particular piece is a pillow, so a basic knowledge of sewing is really necessary. Pillows don't always require a zipper, they can be very basic. Any basic sewing book will provide instructions on pillow construction.
