Instructions

This is easy but the collar and the slit on the sleeves confused me. But that is because I am new to sewing and I consider myself a beginner. An advanced seamstress will find this a piece of cake

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Classic, Casual

Materials

100% cotton (vintage at that)

What was your inspiration?

The Classic Tailored Shirt Class. Pam Howard taught me my first skills in sewing. I ventured into this Burda pattern, different from the one used in class. I had my doubts but I know Pam would like us to apply what we have learned.

What are you most proud of?

That it turned out great. I had a difficult time understanding what would be easy for others. I am a beginner seamstress. The pattern has no collar stand or interfacing. I flat felled the seams though it was not asked for. I used my mother in laws old cotton sheet (1960s) and it is pure cotton, without any stretch. I broke a needle in the process at the hem part. Scared myself crazy. But when I put it on and it fit, I was really so glad.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you are a beginner like me and have taken Pams class, just follow all the pattern and apply the techniques Pam taught us here. Pam, I dedicate this shirt to you. I know you like us to venture into other things. It is not perfect but I am happy with it. This is a lovely pattern and the fit is wonderful.

Wow! This looks very professional! What Burda pattern is this? It is exactly what I have been searching for. Maybe it's because you wear it so well. I am impressed. Keep on sewing.
