What materials did you use? i used cotton materials and rayon threads, backings suggested in the class materials. I wondered what the "Girl with the peal earring" project would look like using the fabrics close to the colors in the original painting, so that's what I did. In doing so I had to applique fabrics to get the colors I wanted then I did the thread stitching. I always have had trouble following instructions. lololololll. I need more experience in shading, but will work on that some more. I haven't done the background stitching yet but will get to that. Don't know how I want to do that yet. Any suggestions? I had a great time doing this, will do another project soon. Thanks for the class

When I first saw this, I wondered how you managed to use a dark fabric. Very creative to combine applique with this technique. If you're using a dark thread on the background, I don't think it would matter a great deal what you do, because it won't be visible except at very close range. If you like the mottled effect of the background (I do), you might go around the lighter spots rather than through them...? I think it looks good just as it is.
