Snowflake

I fold my paper to create a 6 sided snowflake. I draw my design on the paper and cut it out with a pair of scissors. Unfold your paper and you have your snowflake !

Category: Paper Crafts

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Unisex

Style: Romantic, Classic, Holiday, Retro / Vintage, Traditional

Materials

paper, pencil, and scissors

What was your inspiration?

I lived in Germany for a year and I saw beautiful handmade wooden snowflakes. I did not have the tools to do woodworking but I knew I could cut them out of paper. So by trial and error I learned to fold my paper so I would get the 6 sided snowflake I wanted. Then I started cutting pictures and words into the snowflake --- giving my snowflakes a "voice".

What are you most proud of?

It makes me very proud of what I do when people that have a snowflake of mine and call me back years later and want me to make another one for them.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I think one of the most important steps in making a snowflake is folding the paper. It has to sharp, crisp and even.

I have done these using freezer or palette paper and using them as a stencil for fabric painting or on other projects. One of my favorites is to use a person's initials for a fun monogram kaliedoscope. They make great gifts on a journal cover or grocery bag or tote. Using Shiva paint sticks for the painting is really stunning.

I''ve made paper snowflakes before but nothing so intricate or beautiful. This inspires me to try again and to use them on my cards.
