Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sew Retro: The Starlet Suit Jacket

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Retro / Vintage

Materials

Jacket is a magenta raw silk lined in a pale yellow silk. I used vintage shell buttons.

What was your inspiration?

Gertie and her great sewing skills. I needed a refresher course on my long forgotten tailoring skills.

What are you most proud of?

That I finished this jacket I felt it was a real challenge for me.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Make a muslin first to be sure of your fit.

This is a cute jacket on you. It's above my skill level but my older sister is the seamstress in the family. She could make this jacket. She's the one who told me about this website. She has her own sewing business so is always looking for other's to share things with and to get ideas from. Thanks for sharing! Valerie

Who helps you with fit? Or do you have a dress form.

The dress form does not fit across my back well so that is never accurate. I'm going to start and make a muslin from now on. I learned that on another Crafty class. The Couture Dress that's a great class if you haven't taken it.
