This is a wall hanging made of cotton fabrics. I used fusable techniques, hand painting with transparent fabric paints and heavily quilted by machine. I made this wall hanging as a wedding gift for my niece. She sent me a picture of her boyfriend proposing to her at an old winery in Napa. It was such a perfect picture, I wanted to replicate it for her in fabrics. After I had taken Annette Kennedy's class at Craftsy on painting pictorial quilts, I had the confidence to try this somewhat difficult project. When my neice received this lovingly made gift she was brought to tears. I was so happy that I could make her a meaningful gift for wedding. I hope this project can be entered in the Bernina DIY wedding contest.
What was your inspiration?
A photo that my niece mailed me of her engagement and the desire to make her a unique wedding gift.
What are you most proud of?
I tried something new that I never before dreamed that I could do. I created a one of a kind wedding gift and my neice loved it!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
A class is very helpful to learn the techniques of painting. Don't be afraid to try new techniques. You might develope a new passion. For over 30 years I made traditional quilts. Now I am branching out into art quilting.
