The Pi Was Almost Square Shawl

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Knit This: Mastering Lace Shawls »

Instructions

I used Elizabeth Zimmerman's Pi Are Squared Shawl guidelines for inspiration before tackling a more complicated pattern from this course.

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Classic, Romantic

Materials

La Lana Handspun Silk Color: Sandstone

What was your inspiration?

Elizabeth Zimmerman and Meg Swansen.

What are you most proud of?

I made an obstacle work. The yarn was entirely handspun. You can see where the spinner may have dipped into the tequila a bit too much resulting in thicker sections. Rather than rip the entire thing apart, I continued to see how it would turn out. Only another knitter would know. I may cover up these sections with freeform flowers someday.

Also, I used the most basic crochet skills I possess to create an edging and it looks pretty good, IMHO.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If the thought of an entire lace shawl seems scary, try something simpler. I'm ready to tackle much more complicated lace patterns in shawl knitting now with the knowledge learned from this project.
