Instructions

You can make the purse any way you'd like. This one is fairly simple (just rectangles). Most of the work is in the quilting and decorating.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Whimsical, Funky

Materials

Fabric, embroidery floss

What was your inspiration?

I love crazy quilting and free-motion stitching. I also enjoy all the embellishing. These purses let me push my machine a bit. We all have those stitches, it's time to use them!

I bought the book, "Crazy Quilting with an Attitude" by Barbara Randle. That gave me a ton of ideas.

What are you most proud of?

I did some bobbin work on the blue and brown bag. That was a ton of fun. I used one of my special feet to sew a string of pink pearls on the pink one. Then I tried prairie points on the boating bag. I grew up on Lake Huron...oh how I miss it!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be intimidated by this. The bags are so busy that most people won't see little boo-boos.

I love the blue and brown one - I actually have a roll or fabrics in very similar colours sitting on my desk right now that I'm about to do something with! Just have to decide what??? Maybe a bag..... :)

What a great way to use the different stiches on your machine. Beautiful projects. How big is the finished bag?

YES! I do some freemotion, then use the decorative stitches over the seams. I've done this on pillows, too. And I sold these bags, but I think they were about 9" tall and about 11" wide.
