Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Stupendous Stitching: Adventures in Surface Design »

Difficulty:

Category: Other

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Other

Style: Casual

Materials

Cotton fabric, multiple threads and yarns, beads, ribbon, wonder under, fusible fleece.

What was your inspiration?

Bible verse for my daughter to hang on her entry wall. Her married name is Joy, so... :)

What are you most proud of?

This was my first project in this Craftsy course, and my first handwork in more than 50 years! (yikes!!) The creativity just flowed as I worked along, completely free of care and planning -- just go with it!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

JUST START! Since there are no rules, you can be totally free, and just enjoy the process.

EDIT: ...oh wait... there is JUST ONE rule... I didn't really understand before I started, that although stretcher bars come in A LOT of sizes, you might not be able to find the EXACT size you need. I ended up adding a border to come out to the size of the stretchers I could buy. I like the finished work MUCH better than the unfinished, however, so I suppose it's a rule I'm glad I didn't understand! So, you see?? There really ARE no rules!

Thank you. I am all about color. I usually end up with lots of color in my projects -- is there such a thing as too much color?? NAAHHH! ;)

Thank you. I just love the edges, too. I thought I was finished, but needed extra to make the piece fit the stretcher bars I could get. So, Glory! It finished so much better than my plan!

This piece is now installed, in an entryway alcove, lit from above. I think it will live here happily ever after! :)

I was initially going to put some random inspirational words, but decided on a verse as more meaningful to my daughter. She is excited to have it.

Liberal use of marking chalk and a little bit of planning aren't exactly status quo for the intent of Carol Ann's project, but I was on a creative roll I couldn' resist! :-)

This piece is almost finished. Still need to add a rattail binding and mount on a frame. This wall hanging will finish at approximately 15"x25"
