Materials

An antique bath tub, dirt, rock, flowers.

What was your inspiration?

I am the youngest of the family and always get "hand me downs". I love them. My sister inherited this from her next door neighbor, and had it for over 20 years. This year, she decided to "pass it down". I put it in front of the ugly natural gas meter in my back yard!
The original owner always grew Rose Moss in it, my sister did too, at first. Then she expanded to other flowers. I thought I would try some lillies at the back to help hide the gas meter, then geraniums should pop up all around them, then some purple petunias will eventually cascade down the right side.

What are you most proud of?

Just getting 4 men to help move that thing from her house to mine! It is very heavy, sans dirt!!!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun!!!

what did you use to paint the outside of the tub? We have one in our garden and it gets a lot of comments from visitors. I would like to paint it though as the white is so stark.

I've always loved these old tubs used in the garden :) In my new upcoming craftsy class ( DRAB TO FAB HOME AND PATIO) I will be showing some fun and great ways to paint these type of garden elements! Keep a look out for the class- coming in July :) Cool products, fun ways to spruce these finds up and make em personal :) Hope to see you there!

LOVE the idea of painting the outside of the tub! I'm going to get one from my Mom and now I am so going to paint it! I'm going to make mine a water feature for my cats! Goldfish and water plants!

Hi. Please let us know how the tub water feature is coming. I have a clawfoot tub I just got and I was wanting to do the same, make it into a water feature. I also have a concrete pillow that I was thinking of using it with the tub. Maybe sometype of shower flowing out of it into the tub. Still working on that thought.
