Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sewing Studio: Fashion Fitting, Home Decor & More »

Instructions

I realized after I got into this, that I probably needed to re-learn a few things about sewing with velvet -- something I hadn't done in a long time. I was fortunate that there were no disasters. I was careful to steam the seams rather than press them as I normally would. I forgot to consider the nap when cutting but everything turned out okay.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Classic

Materials

For the front of the pillow, I used some beautiful upholstery fabric that I had bought years ago to cover a chair bottom but never did. For the back of the pillow, I used some scrap velvet in a rich dark brown velvet.

What was your inspiration?

I'm taking the Sewing Studio class online and this is the first project in the course. What fun! I sewed all through high school and college but then gave it up for probably 20 years. There is so much I'd forgotten. I love the Sewing Studio class. I'm learning fine points about sewing that I never learned in Girl Scouts or Home Ec which is where I got my sewing skills in the first place.

What are you most proud of?

I love making something useful and beautiful with materials I had around the house.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just have fun with it. It's a low risk, high reward project!
