The Dog's Quilt

Detail
Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Functional

For: Pets

Style: Cute, Whimsical, Casual

Materials

cotton denim, quilting weight cottons for applique and backing.

What was your inspiration?

The German Shepherd that I was pet-sitting liked to ride in my pickup along side me and I wanted something sturdy but inexpensive to cover the passenger side of the bench seat to keep his dirty paws and hair off the upholstery. I found the last of the denim scraps I had on hand and random-patched them together for a protector that would cover the seat and back. I thought it looked rather dull, so I decided to add a simple applique that would fall on the back of the seat when it was in use.

Hi Linda. You are right; I haven't been around Craftsy very much in the past month or so. A multitude of other things have taken priority. The biggest is that a stretch of good weather meant it was time to get out in the yard and clean up all the weed growth from over winter in the landscaping on our double lot. Most years sewing almost comes to a halt during the good weather months due to yard work and I expect that this will be no exception. Also, about a month ago I was re-diagnosed from type 2 to type 1.5 (LADA) diabetic and put on insulin. That has meant much of my web time has been devoted to researching health topics. I've been trying to finish up the "bottom of the barrel" of fabrics donated for charity quilts, and some of the resulting items I didn't feel were interesting enough to warrant sharing on Craftsy. I have made a few little pet quilts as custom orders and a few extra for my Etsy shop. They are so simple I hadn't really thought about sharing them on Craftsy, but maybe I should. For the next month, what sewing I do will likely focus on making some simple pants and tops that FIT, since it is impossible to find ready-to-wear that's acceptable. Again, I don't know if I'll bother to show off such simple items on Craftsy. It will likely be after the fall rains start that I find enough time to do much creative work in the sewing room again. But I do stop by enough to see what you and others have done. Many times I think, "I don't have time to comment right now, but I'll come back to do so later." Unfortunately, that hasn't happened much. I certainly enjoy seeing all your creative endeavors!

What a clever idea! The purpose of the quilt is genius. And the little dog applique--is just like an exclamation point. Made me giggle and say, "now that's really clever!"

This is so cute! I love that tiny little dog in the middle of the big bold blanket.
