This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
The Perfect Fit Seamless Crazy Lace Cardigan »

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Casual

Materials

Stylecraft Aran with wool 400gm Peat

What was your inspiration?

My inspiration long country walks, originally wanted long sleeves - but it was too hot to wear. Made the buttons to match, I am very pleased with the Dorset buttons. I'm on a bit of a weight loss thing, so designed to be skin tight so that it is still wearable two sizes down.

FYI: Size UK 20 - fits where it touches!!

What are you most proud of?

I love the lace work, shows up best on the back. We had a break in the rain so ran outside to take some photos, and boy was it sunny.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just go for it, Don't be afraid to unpick.

I've been thinking: I belive the crew neck on my chest has the same effect as a V neck, but I think I prefer the look. Next time I fancy trying an edging rather than the rib at the neck line. There's a gorgeious 'ribbed flounce 'on page 118 of 'The very easy guide to lace knitting' by Lynne Watterson. I might be giving that a go - especially as I still have more balls of the Stylecraft Aran to play with!

It is really lovely. I love the gauge, yarn, and the stitches. You are right. It is a work of art. You must wear it once in a while. It's really stunning.

Thank you, it's really ashame - I'm so please with it I don't wear it, I feel it's a piece of art work rather than a cardigan! I must do another in cream as it really shows the lace effect well. Then I might actually start wearing this.

Thank you all for your comments. There is a talk thread going on the buttons - they are called "Dorset Buttons". Very easy, I promise.

Thank you all very much. It's completely down to Myra's Top Down Crazy Lace workshop. The lace patterns are mainly provided by her, I just kept changing everytime I felt the need. The button band is the crochet one from Myra, just one repeat rather than the two. Dorset buttons - I Googled them initially and these are just basic ones they get more complex and more beautiful. I am not a great knitter my tension is not perfect, but with Myra's course I am 100% happy. I have plans for many more cardigans! It's also keeping my fingers busy so my waistline is reducing all the time!

Thank you. Oh wow, I have found some wonderful ruffle edge ideas for a different cardigan, I have now frogged the button band and replaced with something I like much more. It's such a warm garment, I have decided to leave the sleeves off. I'm going to knit a few rounds on each and then edge with a picot. I want to knit one in something cooler, definately creamy, most likely cotton.

I would keep the long length to show off all the gorgeous lace patterns! You could find ruffled edging patterns online, maybe do the same edging around the short sleeves. Ha ha, great minds think alike--I'm planning to make a cardie in a similar color--sort of shiny champagne or pale taupe. It's beautiful!
