What was your inspiration?
I had a few patterns for bird wall hangings, ONe from England Designs, which is similar to paper piecing, but uses such tiny fabric pieces, that I gave up on it. Another pattern I had was for a paper pieced bird. I was not good at either of those techniques, so I decided to design the piece myself.
What are you most proud of?
MY first attempt at designing a picture quilt, without using a pattern.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Draw out the patterns, to scale. Audition your fabrics. The background fabric is not the one I originally chose for this piece. This is a pretty quick piece to put together, with the use of Acugquilt dies for the flowers, leaves and branches. I designed the cardinal myself, following pictures available on the internet.
