Tapestry/Bead Cuff Bracelet

Pattern Info

This project was designed by Claudia Chase.
Info can be found at:

Project Pattern »

Category: Weaving

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Cute, Classic, Ethnic, Casual

Materials

hand-dyed silk yarn, size 11 seed beads, brass cuffs, C-Lon thread, ultrasuede

What was your inspiration?

I was inspired by Mayan culture. I was taking the concept of small format weavings from other cultures and applying that to a piece of jewelry. I then figured out a method to incorporate beads into the fiber cuff. I used vibrant colors that are not normally seen in jewelry.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of coming up with something that is completely unique.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Use the correct equipment and be very patient and thoughtful as you do the piece. Learn to live with failure. If it doesn't come out right the first time that's okay, because there is always a second and third and fourth opportunity to make it right.

I just got the 12" Mirrix and 3 bracelet kits at the Bead and Button Show! Almost finished with my first Affinity bracelet and want to start the cuff. This cuff looks different from the one on the kit photo - did you weave it with lots of warps horizontally from top to bottom instead of 15 warps weaving end to end vertically? Not sure how clear my question is, but the weave looks more horizontal end to end instead of the kit version. I'm so glad to have found you at the show!!!

If I bought the kit from the website, do I have to have a Mirrix loom, or can I used my bead loom? Thanks in advance, Luella

It requires a fiber loom, not a bead loom.

Would love to do this, but I am left handed and can't get the stitches to come out right. Any suggestions or instructions for lefties would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried this project on a loom? Being left handed should make no difference whatsoever. In fact, the Mirrix Loom is designed to accommodate left handed people.

This was done on a Mirrix Loom. There is no right or left handed. The loom allows for both.

There is absolutely no problem doing this left handed. You can work from left/right or right/left.. We use Mirrix Looms which are very easy for left-handed people .
