Instructions
1. Paint tag a base color. I used light blue.
2. Once dry, lay down a stencil. I used a chipboard shape that I like. Spray a mist of watered down gray or black over the tag. When you remove the stencil / chipboard shape, you will see a subtle pattern underneath.
3. Tear a thin piece of paper from a book. I used a page from a Bible, but you could use any book or even a music sheet or poetry in a foreign language! Just make sure you read what it says before attaching it. You don't want to finish your piece and find that there is something you don't like distracting from your art!
4. Adhere a puzzle piece using gel medium. You could paint the puzzle piece or use as is. Let dry.
5. I dabbed a little iridescent paint on certain parts of the tag to add another layer and give it texture. This is optional.
6. Bend a piece of scrap copper over the side of the tag. This piece already had holes in it but you could drill a hole if needed.
7. Attach metal with brad.
*I personally don't like to leave the back unfinished with the brad's prongs showing, so I also covered the back with more embellishments/paper.
8. Stamp your phrase on the front, using the puzzle piece for your first letter. Use embossing ink.
9. While it's still wet, sprinkle embossing powder on the letters and shake off excess. Heat with heat gun to melt powder.
*Tip: This is the step that tests your patience. You cannot emboss on this tag until everything is totally dry! If you try to emboss and your paint is wet, the powder will stick all over! :(
10. Cover everything except the metal and brad, with gel medium to seal it and give it a nice gloss. Gel medium also comes in a matte finish if you prefer!
11. Use ribbon to hang from a bag or adhere your tag to a card or scrapbook page!
