Materials

A. Fall runner - fall colored fabrics and varigated thread. B. Christmas runner - kit

What was your inspiration?

Tis the season to work on Presents. I saw the kit for this cute Christmas Table Runner on line and couldn't resist it. It at Connecting Threads, quick easy and fun to make. Enough fabric come's in the kit to make almost two with a little added from your stash for the second runner.

The Fall runner is a pattern from a 'Skinny Quilts' book I've had for ever, and I'd made a fall runner for a friend last year that her Aunt has 'borrowed' and is reluctant to return, so I made this one for her to either keep or gift to her Aunt. The fabrics are all from my stash of fall fat quarters and yardage.

What are you most proud of?

I'm using these table runners and other I'll be making to practice my quilting skills, so I'm trying all kinds of designs, and fabrics. I'm also biting the bullet and doing the bindings by hand. Since I have issues with mobility in my hands, I have to stop & start alot, and I've gotta say thank Heavean for Aleve and Ben Gay.

Craftsy is going to make me a better quilter just because there are so many really good quilters who share their work, and inspire us all.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Relax and have fun. For me quilting is therapy, and boy do I love therapy, now if I could just find a way for the quilts to massage my shoulders while I work.. well never mind, I'd fall asleep and never get anything done.

Incidentally, I'm a masseuse, and I know exactly what you mean - quilting really makes the shoulders ache (as does massaging someone else!!) The poor old masseuse never seems to get a massage!

I know Christmas has been and gone, but I really love this little runner and will certainly keep it in mind for next (this) year. I think perhaps I will start, as I think you did, on Christmas projects in the summer, to make sure I've finished them in time!

So cute, dkaym!! Love that you're already starting for the holidays -- I can't seem to get going on anything lately :( But you're inspiring me! And you do a great job with the quilting!

Thanks, I've put off bed quilts for a bit to make the table runners and I'll be practicing my quilting and making christmas presents for my co-workers at the same time, so it's well worth it to me. I might even get enough done this year that I don't leave anyone out. Ususally I only get a few done because I wait too long. Hope to see more from you soon. Have a great Labor Day weekend. YIPPEE Three whole days to play!
