What was your inspiration?
This was made in many stages over nearly 18 months and it documents each step of my quilting journey of learning. I started by taking a short course about using rulers and rotary cutters, where we sliced a jelly roll up and created very simple square blocks.
Then a few months later after I had started a beginner's patchwork class I was ready to turn all those squares into a top (in fact I made two different table runners from the jelly roll). This is the state it remained for the best part of the year, since I had no idea what to do next.
After joining Craftsy and getting lots of inspiration from different courses, I finally decided to make a pieced back. Now I was on a roll and couldn't put the project down until it was finished! I attempted my first try of free motion quilting in a continuous rectangle design. Then it was bound and I couldn't believe the eternal UFO was finally complete.
What are you most proud of?
It's far from perfect and I can see all the 'oops' moments, but just the satisfaction of having completed the whole project is terrific. To have friends come over and ask if I really made it is also pretty great.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Revel in the learning experience and know that each project builds your confidence and inspiration to keep going.
