I made this as a way to experiment with different patterns in plain weave. I warped the loom in a sequence of red and white thread ratios: 1;1, 1;2, 2;2, 2;3, 3;3, etc. I then wove the warp in the same sequence so I could see the full range of shapes that would appear.Difficulty:

What was your inspiration?
I couldn't find any information on what patterns I could make with plain weave beyond hound's tooth and gingham, so I set out to find out for myself. I like red and white as kitchen decor, so I wove the mat to have a function once I'd finished it.
What are you most proud of?
This was my 4th weaving project, and I was pleased I nearly got the selvedges straight and the beating reasonably even - it should be square, and it's pretty close.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
There was HUGE differences in quality between different brands of cotton - I used 2 different brands of white cotton, and one had a lot more stretch and fullness than the other, which was disappointing.
