Instructions

I watched 3 tutorials from Missouri Star Quilt Company on YouTube, one on t-shirt quilts, one on the heart block (middle block on quilt), and one on machine binding.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Materials

Various t-shirts and jerseys from my daughter's many years of softball. Red, black, and white quilting fabric.

What was your inspiration?

My daughter will be heading off to college this fall and she requested a quilt made of some of her softball shirts and jerseys.

What are you most proud of?

This is the first complete quilt that I have made, so I am proud of it all! But especially the free motion quilting around the border.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Be sure to use an iron on interfacing to stabilize the t-shirts. Protect screen printing on the t-shirts when you are ironing. Find some great coordinating fabrics and have fun creating!

Great job! Victoria-Look on my projects and see the one I made for my husband. Lots of different sizes. I used some t-shirt backs inbetween and some cotton fabric. You can use either for the back as well. Good luck. It is so much fun and a real treasure.

I LOVE YOUR QUILT! I AM ABOUT TO EMBARK ON ONE FOR MY SON AND HIS WIFE WHO ARE INTO TRIATHALONS. THEY HAVE T-SHIRTS FROM MANY DIFFERENT VENUES AND MANY DIFFERENT COLORS. I AM NOT GOOD AT MATCHING OR COORDINATING COLO9RS SO THIS IS A DAUNTING TASK FOR ME. DID YOU USE T-SHIRT MATERIAL FOR SASHING AND BORDERS? HOW ABOUT THE BACKING? WHAT DID YOU USE FOR THAT?

Thanks Victoria. I used cotton quilting fabric for the sashing, border, and backing. I only used the t-shirts foe rhe middle of the blocks. My daughter had red and black as her high school colors and her new college also has red and black! So those were the main colors I went with. Remember there really is no right or wrong way to do it. You are the artist... be creative and have fun!
