This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Machine Quilting Negative Space »

Instructions

I just did a practice piece with contrasting thread so I could see where I was going better. That did help but making nice round swirls is going to take a lot of practice!

What was your inspiration?

Angela Walters beautiful quilting with swirls

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Haha, just look and see ... I'm not qualified to give advice. But seriously just enjoy the process. I never preshrink my fabric so after the quilt is made and washed that first time it shrinks a bit. That gives the quilt lots of texture and makes it a bit difficult to see that the quilting isn't perfect. Plus it looks nice and old and comfy.

Love the character these swirls have. It is a new lovely swir, if you ask me, One with a special feel! . Also love the eneven spacing in individual swirls. It happends to mine alll the time when I am drawing, but never in such a charming way.

Pretty. It reminds me of how the wind is depicted in story books. :)

I think imperfections are delightful and look whimsical! Hope mine are this good. If we wanted perfectiion, we should just buy computer-stitched quilts! Beautiful and artistic work!

Well done you! I'm determined to master FMQ, but haven't had the courage to try swirls like that yet - having my fingers crossed doesn't help at all!

Nice job, it really does take practice I am finding and learning that even if the machine is sounding fast it is not going anywhere until you move the fabric! That knowledge is making a world of difference for me.

Oh I love this! Great job!!! It's so fun to know that you are learning exactly what I am learning! I have been struggling with the swirls - mine look more like squares. But this morning as I was practicing, they seem to be getting rounder....so I really think the more we do them the better they will become! Way to go and thanks for sharing!
