Instructions

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Whimsical, Romantic

Materials

CeWeC Delano color 19, picked up in Finland last winter, three skeins, alpaca, mohair, wool and acryl mix.

What was your inspiration?

I stared at the sample at a local yarn store over the summer and swore to myself that I"m going to figure out how to make it. Well, turns out it is extremely easy, just make concentric evenly shrinking circles. How come I didn't see that?

What are you most proud of?

The colors running out of the skein were a bit hard to keep blending nicely, so I wound up knitting from three skeins at the same time to have different color blends available.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I learned the hard way that metal DB needles are a disaster with this - if you drop a stitch, you've lost your pattern unless you have unlimited patience to figure it out. So, bamboo worked much better for me after the circular needle came too tight to work with. I've now ordered a set of bamboo 16" circulars that seem to have really short needle ends hoping that they'll be more useful in patterns similar to this in the future.

Rather than using a circular with a short cord, why not use Cat Bordhi's method of using two circulars? You can then knit in very tiny circles without having to use doublepointed needles.

Interesting suggestion. I've seen how she does it. To me it is an incredibly clonky method of knitting, and in this case I'd hesitate as the shape is dependent on the pattern appearing as you advance. KnitPro has very short DB needles, but my old and worn out bamboos were just fine.

Thank you so much! It is incredibly easy once you get the hang of it.
