What was your inspiration?

For the very first time, I am participating in a block swap. This pattern was designed and provided for the swap by Jennifer Ofenstein at Sewhooked.com. Michele Foster at the Quilting Gallery blog is hosting this swap.

What are you most proud of?

Paper pieced mountains and trees took some patience.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I've said this before, but I love paper piecing and I would encourage everyone to try it.

I've never heard of a block swap! Does it mean that you start the block and someone else finishes it ? Do you then pass the blocks along so that everyone has some input? Or have I got it complete wrong? I love the trees and the frosty look of this block, with the stippling on the ice.

Hi, The Block swap that I am participating in asks each participant to make the entire block. I know there are other types of swaps that do as you mentioned above. Thanks for your nice comment.

There are a lot of ways to swap blocks or do block round robins. This particular one you swap finished mini quilts. You pay to enter at Quilting Gallery

beautiful! I read about block swaps in a recent quilting mag and thought it would be interesting, but it didn't provide any info on finding a block swap. I live in a rural area and we don't have a quilting guild or club :( The owner of the tiny local shop said she tried to start a club, but no one was interested.

Hi MsQuilty, Thanks as always for your nice words. You have some interest in lock swaps. Here is an web address that is not a swap but is asking for quilters to make a specified block which will be used to make quilts for Hurricane Sandy victims. http://quiltinggallery.com/quilters-fun/sandy-quilt-block-drive
