Follow the directions for the first time you do it! Unless you are very experienced. I finally got the hang of it after placing markers after the first 7 stitches on each side, then each 18 in between those. Don't be too tight on your i-cord cast-on, otherwise it's difficult to pick up the stitches for row one. Overall, it's a wonderful pattern to do. I used Knit Picks Comfy Worsted in Pomegranate. I used 24 skeins! It called for bulky yarn, which I don't like to use much, but after taking almost 18 months to knit this blanket, I would use it in a heartbeat next time!
