I did the border in 2 rounds, doing double crochets evenly down the long straight sides. Then on the pointed sides, I would start with a single crochet, then do a couple of half-doubles, then double crochets in the middle, and work my way back up to the point with half doubles, then singles, and I think I'd do a slip stitch right in the point. Does that make sense? Sorry for the delay in responding!
