Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Classic, Cute, Casual, Traditional

Materials

cotton quilting fabric and batting

What was your inspiration?

Using up fabric and batting pieces leftover from a quilt project. Loved the blue/yellow combination and thought it would be great in the kitchen.

What are you most proud of?

Binding these with traditional quilt binding makes for a polished look. And I LOVE to make binding and hand-sew it down on the back (I'm in the minority, I know).

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Traditional quilt blocks make great potholders, as well as other nifty gifts! If you don't have one, consider buying a book of quilt blocks. There are a bunch available, and you can sometimes find them on the bargain rack at the bookstore. Or try half.com, eBay, or other discount sites, because many of the comprehensive quilt block books have been out for years now, and you don't have to pay full price.
