Sunbonnet Sue Nine-Patch

Sunbonnet Sue Nine-Patch
Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Cute

Materials

100% cotton calico prints for miniature nine-patch pattern, borders, applique and backing. 100% cotton 'Warm and Natural' batting. Quilting thread.

What was your inspiration?

I have always loved the little "Sunbonnet Sue's" from the turn of the century quilts that my grandmother made. I love to make miniature quilts, not only because they take less time and one can make several miniatures in the time it takes to quilt one bedsize quilt, but also because one can use the whimsical side of their creative mind to make fun and whimsical projects.

What are you most proud of?

The hand quilting sets this project apart from machine quilting. The hand appliqued "Sunbonnet Sue" and her little doggie adds a fun flair to this 18 x 18" miniature quilt.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun with it. After the nine-patch 'base' is put together, any applique that would suit your family, your decor, etc. would be fine. I chose the SunBonnet Sue because it is a reflection of times past.

Thank you so much. I like to keep busy, and was very fortunate to have a mother and grandmother who could 'do anything'. So I had the best teachers. I am partial to porcelain painting, quilting and heirloom sewing. But love all home arts and crafts.
