Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Stupendous Stitching: Adventures in Surface Design »

Instructions

I added several focus items to provide more interest and detail. Free motion stitched leaves with bead accents were stiffened to add dimension. They are attached with velcro and can be removed and not get crushed while traveling.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Funky

Materials

The background fabric is a soft batik print, embellished with a variety of couched cords, yarn, and beads. A multitude of decorative machine stitching curves around the couching, adding hand stitches and beads to completely cover the background.

What was your inspiration?

I love leaves and the Stupendous Stitching is a wonderful technique, but even better with some accents and a place for your eye to rest.

What are you most proud of?

I love it all! I am especially happy the way the leaves turned out and my clever idea to attach them with little Velcro pieces so they can easily be removed and not get crushed.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Take your time and enjoy the process. It takes a lot of time but is well worth the effort!

Love the piece - great use of color and stitches! How did you make the 3d leaf, it has such an organic texture to it?

Beautiful piece of fiber art. Your use of color and couching fibers adds so much dimension to each piece.
