Stupendous Stitching - 1st Project

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Stupendous Stitching: Adventures in Surface Design »

Instructions

This is a great course for just letting go of all the rules. You just let your materials talk to you and go with the moment. I had a LOT of fun with this piece.

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Whimsical, Funky

Materials

The bacvkground is an orange-yellow batik. There are fuzzy yarns, metallic cords and stitching in a variety of colors and threads.

What was your inspiration?

The course itself - I watched the whole course before I started working on my piece. Not that you have to, for me that was best. And I just chose things already in my stash to play with.

What are you most proud of?

I haven't done any hand embroidery for years - more than I'd like to count! I really liked the way the embroidery adds to this piece.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Play! Have fun! There's nothing to work out in this course - no seams to match, no color-coordinating. This is a good bust loose and play project.

Gorgeous!!!! Class looks intriguing. Thanks for sharing. I bought some orange sluffy yarn on a card as an inspiration for "someday" that was the last one in the store. Thinking Halloween decor? A few odds and ends around the house, orange ? What fun

This course lets you take full use of all that 'someday' stuff we love to collect! AND you don't need much of it to make a big impact - depends on the size of the piece. I know you'll enjoy the course. I didn't buy anything new for this course - just used what I already had on hand.

I really like the colors you chose. I love art quilting and have made some landscapes with the various embroidery stitches for the foreground. I am so excited to take this class

The largest single piece I have made so far measures 1 foot by 4 feet. I tend to make my art in panels that hang together rather than one large piece but I don't see why working bigger would be a problem,

I'm already thinking about my next piece. What's the largest piece you've worked on? Are there any constraints on size and how the piece works out?

It is beautiful. How large is your piece and how will you display it?

I haven't trimmed it down yet, but is should be about 12 x 12 inches. I'll mount it on a black frame.

Great piece - now I really want to take this course. Love what you did. What machine did you use?

I've got a Janome MemoryCraft 10001 - which I've had for about 4 years now. I've just started to use the decorative stitches built into the machine. And the course is great - very easy to follow her instructions.

Love this piece. Using the batik base fabric is genius! Also like your use of the blues and purple, they really pop. I will be taking this couse soon. Looks llike fun.

No, just store bought batik I already had in my stash. I think designing the fabric first would be awesome - you've given me something to think about!
