Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Stupendous Stitching: Adventures in Surface Design »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Other

Style: Whimsical, Traditional

Materials

14" white fabric, couching materials, assorted threads, fusible fleece, wonder under, backing fabric, embroidery floss, hoop and needle.

What was your inspiration?

I enjoyed making the first piece from this course so much that I made another. I tried to find a colorful fabric background but settled on white again! Not sure what to do with this one - maybe another pillow? Ideas welcomed!!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

It takes a while to build up a stash of threads and couching materials - but it's almost as much fun collecting as making the projects - it's addictive!

I love the feel of this white background and mostly pastel stitching. Your hand embroidery is sooo sweet. Love the flowers. I think I would have chosen a lighter color for the binding, but it is all wonderful.

Thank you. I agree with your binding comment though I will say the digital image makes it darker than it is... but I think it is too strong either way and reduces the impact of the stitching. I think I'll change it!! Thank you for pointing that out!!

Thank you! The binding is not quite as dark as the monitor/computer displays it... appreciate your comment.

I love this. It would be pretty as a journal cover.

Thank you! My sister has also sugested these would work as journal covers. After posting, I decided to use this to learn how to put on a mitered corner binding. It worked well and I'm going to hang this where I do my sewing...for now.

After I saw your first piece, I made one on a white background myself! I just love how crisp the colors look -- feels like spring with all those beautiful flowers.

Thank you! You are a very inspirational teacher. Just got back from purchasing some material to take a stab at adding a border to this piece.
