When I saw the design for an oak tree on Windflower I couldn't resist trying the technique out. I had never heard of stumpwork before this year and was excited by the 3D concept. The tree is based on the tree outline from my brother's wedding which took place under an oak tree in a nearby woods. It is done in freemachine embroidery and handstitching. The fairy is machine embroidered pattern done on watersoluble backing and the wings were done the same but separate to the fairy with the addition of organza. The leaves and acorns were stump worked - my very first attempt at this skill. It is mounted on linen and hung in a plain embroidery hoop.
