Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Stupendous Stitching: Adventures in Surface Design »

Instructions

This us one of other four projects I worked on after completing my first Stupendous Stitching project. Two were pastel, two similar to my already posted project. I used these as experimental pieces and learned much. Follow the instructions initially than go ahead and have fun experimenting!

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Romantic, Classic, Whimsical, Traditional

Materials

Cotton batik, various yarns and threads, fusible fleece, wonder under

What was your inspiration?

After completing initial projects in both Stupendous Stitching and Stitch & Slash I wanted to explore further, i decided to do four at a time, Two with the same dark fabric and two in pastel. I generally do not work with pastels so it was an interesting challenge. This project is unmounted and I'm not sure what the final result will be.

What are you most proud of?

Experimenting and learning! Some things I tried are successful; others not that great. Since there are no mistakes it all comes together. My regret is that after I finished the handwork I had a freak accident that injured my index finger. It will be a month or two before I can do any handwork.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun! Ask what if? and go for it. There really are no mistakes!

Beautiful! Did you have any difficulty with couching the eyelash yarn?

Not really. If you look closely you'll see that I stitched at the top (corded) edge. I tried to use my fingers to keep the eyelashes flattened as I stitched. I really like this yarn!

JDT Love the flow of colors, shapes and textures in your study! Do you use hand dyed fabrics?

Not yet. I just took a workshop with Sherrill Kahn and am enthusiastic about starting to dye and paint again. That needs to wait while a finger injury heals. Hoping to have a day in the studio this weekend!

This is wonderful. I love the colors and the texture. Your attention to value really pops your lines and embroidery stitches.

Sweet! Like the random movement of the embellishments and the variation of colors in the material . depending on how you look at it, you almost have a topographic map of the countryside complete with farmland and undulating fields of various crops, I must be in a whimsical mood this morning, lol - at any rate - beautiful :)
