I used the String Block pattern from the March Craftsy BOM. Since I only had scraps of the fabric I wanted to use for my main diamond shape, I used plain paper as my foundation instead of fabric, and built each block out from the middle. The paper cut into 6.5" squares helped me keep the diagonals on track. I just centered the first strip (the beige batik fabric) from corner to corner on the paper, right side up, and started attaching fabric strips first one way to a corner, and then the other way until the paper was filled. Then I trimmed the fabric to match the paper and removed the paper. It's a combination Paper Piecing/Foundation technique! :) I made four big 12.5" blocks (16 smaller 6.5" blocks); added sashings, borders and backing; quilted it Stitch in the Ditch; and wrapped the backing around the front, folded and sewed close to the edge for a self-binding. It matches my "new" kitchen perfectly and I looove it!!!
