Thanks for the advice. I have a couple of blocks to "review" at the end. I love my background fabric, but one of the other colors that matches perfectly just has a dead look to it. However, I am happy to be using up some of my stash and making something worthwhile in the process of learning.

Gorgeous! Love the colors/fabric. Your skill in making this match so beautifully is a reward in itself. I think I am going to redo mine at the end, as I don't like the center of mine ----- Need to finish the project to be sure I have enough background first....... love your work

use real paper piecing for this and add the background fabric where it should go - or really where you want it. It wouldn't take up as much of the background fabric and still look good. I actually cut away the background fabric behind mine so it wouldn't be bulky.
