Style: Whimsical

Materials

Thrifted linen afternoon tea mat (front flap), stretch denim (body of bag), light iron-on interfacing (on denim pieces), quilting cotton (lining), glass beads, ceramic button

What was your inspiration?

This is a fun bag upcycle I whipped up from a vintage afternoon tea mat I picked up at the thrift shop for $0.50. I just loved the cute strawberries! I paired it with some dark denim I had left over from my skinny jeans project (also on Craftsy). I designed the bag and embroidered small turquoise beads and a great ceramic button from Vancouver.

What are you most proud of?

It was great fun to make and good to know you can turn a fifty cent find into a stylish bag!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Go have fun in a thrift shop and pick up something that catches your eye. You can turn it into almost anything functional, pretty and unique.
