Stitching Alabama Style

My Scrap pin

Pattern Info

Pattern info for this project can be found here:
instructions in Alabama Stitch Book

Instructions

Used the pattern and stencil in the book Alabama Stitch by Natalie Chanin. Did not make many changes from the instructions but did sew together on machine and left the edges raw.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Retro / Vintage, Casual, Funky, Romantic

Materials

Two of my husbands old XL %100 cotton T Shirts

What was your inspiration?

In Megs class "Sewing with Knits" she gave the Alabama Chanin web site for a resource. I ordered the book Alabama Stitch and went from there. If you like the look, these books give you all the knowledge you need to make a great knock off!

What are you most proud of?

My daughter thinks its very cool and wants one.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Megs instructions work great for dyeing the cloth. I enjoyed having a project to sit by the fire on these long winter nights

The technique is really easy but hunt down your thimble, the button hole thread through the knit can be tough.

Thanks! I logged some hours in on this but it really goes pretty fast. I think if you did a skirt and just did some work on the bottom it would be beautiful and not take very long.
