What was your inspiration?

My friend's husband is a dedicated Steve Zissou fan. I also love Wes Anderson's films. Many of his characters are iconic, but Zissou was a perfect model for amigurumi.

What are you most proud of?

The success of dolls like is really dependent on paying attention to detail. I really like the way the beard turned out. I hope I captured the character's rather wistful expression.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Allison's (Crafty is Cool) patterns are easy to follow and adapt. It took me about a month to make this doll, but I have two young boys and several projects on the go. I wired the arms and legs so that the doll could be fully posable. There is a tutorial for this on her site as well.
