Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Girls

Style: Whimsical, Mod, Funky

Materials

Jelly rolls, cotton batting, cotton thread

What was your inspiration?

Colorful jelly rolls and the motivation to finishit on time to give as a Christmas present.

What are you most proud of?

One of the jelly roll strip had a nick which only became visible after washing the quilt top. I had made a little embroidery stamp while practicing on my Bernina, and it became the perfect patch! As a result, the quilt's name is "Postcard from New York" !
I enjoyed figuring out the circular quilt pattern, learning to use a guide attached to the quilt foot, and learned about zig-zag presser feet which made attaching the binding a much speedier task.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun! I didn't like the way the strips turned out the first time, so I unpicked the middle row, turned the top half around and re-attached it. It was also fun choosing a backing and binding which make the quilt my own.
